Former Royal residence in picturesque riverside location
Built in 1908 by HRH Prince Chakrabongse as a private residence, the Chakrabongse Villas were opened to the public by the prince's daughter Narissa in 2002. The location couldn't be better. The Grand Palace is a mere 300 metre walk away, and across river guests are treated to uninterrupted views of Wat Arun (The Temple of Dawn).
This 9 room hotel is ornately decorated in royal Thai style with an abundance of teak. The main house is palatial. Guests enter through a lobby with a marble floor and wall adorned with carving and family paintings through to a carved wooden stair case. The river terrace restaurant specialises in unique family recipes. Royal cuisine is a distinct branch of Thai cookery and this restaurant serves authentic examples of this special food. You need to book in advance for the set menus. As well as great food, the hotel can arrange river trips in Seri, its classic styled teak river launch. Alternatively, they have some canoes if you fancy a paddle to work off some calories.
The 9 rooms in this hotel are unique and differ dramatically in size and style. The River View suite (129sqm) is classically Thai styled and has a private verandah. The Royal Suite (57sqm) and the White Suite (70sqm) are both located in the main house. In the garden there is a separate traditional teak Thai House (97sqm) which has been lovingly restored and updated. Overlooking the pool is the two bedroom Chinese suite (155sqm) ideal for families. The Garden View suite (44sqm) is decorated in a more contemporary style. The three remaining rooms (Mali, Feng Fa and Chaba) are 15sqm a piece and decorated in a Moroccan style. All rooms are en-suite and benefit from free WiFi.
