Elegant new hotel in garden setting
The Oriental Residence is a newcomer to the Bangkok Hotel scene opening late January 2012. The early indications are that this hotel is going to become a firm favourite amongst 'in the know' visitors to Bangkok. The owners have made great use of the landmark location between the US and Dutch embassies to create a flawlessly presented modern European style hotel with great facilities, excellent service and generously sized rooms - all at a lower cost than comparable hotels. We suspect these discounted prices are temporary and we urge you to book now whilst this superb hotel remains a bargain.
What we particularly like about this hotel is its understated elegance. The simple French bistro style restaurant, the light colours and fabrics, the lobby, or the hanging chairs by the pool for instance. It all looks great without trying too hard. This said, from the outset the designers of this hotel had the undeniable benefit of a great, green and leafy, location, which in Bangkok isn't easy to find. The hotel gardens stretch into the gardens of the neighbouring Dutch and US embassies, and from the upper floors of the hotel there are great views of Lumphini park.
The hotel features four room types. The Executive Deluxe (45sqm), one bed suite (70sqm), two bed suite (120sqm), and three bed suite (160sqm). All the rooms have kitchens, and the suites have separate living areas. The rooms feel large and are well appointed with the usual range of amenities you would expect from a 5* hotel. When you book the Executive Deluxe or one bed suite do take note that you have an option of city view, park view or corner room. We had difficulties in booking a three bed suite (booked solid!) so book early folks if you want the best rooms.
