First class hotel with traditional Thai style
The Sukhothai is definitely one of the top 5 hotels in Bangkok. Of these 5 hotels it is top of the list when it comes to Thai architecture. Modelled around the style of the buildings of ancient Sukhothai, the overall effect is breathtaking. Combined with this is first class service, excellent facilities and great food options. The location isn't riverside, but very convenient within walking distance of both Skytrain and Metro stations.
First timers to Bangkok will probably book a room at a riverside hotel if they are lucky enough to afford a hotel in this class. For more seasoned travellers they tend to favour the Sukhothai. The hotel grounds are a tourist attraction in their own right. We paricularly like the Chedi pond, featuring replica of ancient stupas, and the Salas that contain the hotel's popular Thai restaurant, Celadon. The hotel also has four other eating/drinking venues: Colonnade (international), La Scala (Italian), Zuk bar (cocktails) and a pool terrace cafe/bar. The health club in the Sukhothai is second to none in Bangkok so be sure to bring your sports gear. There is a gymnasium, aerobics room, spa, squash court and a tennis court with fully qualified professionals on hand to put you through your paces.
The rooms are pretty good also, with the Thai theme continuing in the decor. There are 9 types of room, all featuring the usual amenities you would expect of a five star hotel. The smallest is the Superior Room (38sqm) and the largest the Sukhothai Suite (198sqm) complete with a grand piano and they will even provide someone to play it when you have dinner parties at your own suite dining table.
